The results of the Local Government Election for 2016 will be announced at 6.00pm on Saturday.
This according to the Independent Electoral Commission's (IEC) Chairperson Glen Mashinini, who addressed the media at the IEC's National Results Operation Centre in the west of Pretoria.
"Tomorrow morning we will be preparing this venue for the official final results announcement event to be held here at 6.00pm tomorrow," Mashinini said.
He said the outcomes of the municipal elections is known in all but 38 of the 257 councils being contested when he addressed the media just after 5.00pm.
"Work is continuing to finalise these results for these outstanding councils, which include a number of district councils in the country. Some of them are the largest metros. For obvious reason the data and the processing is slightly longer, but it is within our target time.
These include the City of Johannesburg, Tshwane, Ekurhuleni, eThekwini, Buffalo City and the City of Cape Town.
