‘Embarrassing’ that ANC cannot pay salaries, says Numsa
Updated | By Eva Chipa
The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) says the
failure by the African National Congress (ANC) to pay salaries is nothing less
than a disgrace.

Spokesperson Phakamile Hlubi-Majola says it’s embarrassing that the governing party has not paid salaries for the past three months.
“Workers are owed salaries for three months – August, September, and October, and it is unclear if they will receive any salary in November. It is a disgrace and an embarrassment that the governing party has not paid salaries of its own staff members.
“The way that the governing party is treating workers sets a bad example for the rest of the country and this is why we should not be surprised when capital is brutal. Employers are taking their cue from this government and deepening the attacks on the working class,” says Hlubi-Majola.
She says the results of the local elections should not come as a surprise.
“We should not be surprised that the ANC was punished at the local government elections because the working class is justifiably fed-up. We condemn the ANC and its leadership for inflicting unnecessary misery on the working class.
“It received R5.8 million from African Rainbow Minerals (ARM), Chancellor House contributed R15 million and NEP Consulting donated R1 million - but the ANC has still refused to allocate any money to pay workers.”
