Emfuleni agrees to settle Eskom debt
Updated | By Lulutho Mkosi
Emfuleni Mayor Gift Moerane says Eskom has suspended its plans to cut off electricity to the municipality.

The power utility had earlier threatened to cut off electricity supply to the municipality in the Vaal Triangle due to the money owed to it.
Eskom had stated that electricity would be cut next Wednesday of due to a R1.7 billion rand debt.
Moerane says the municipality is still servicing an old debt which has increased over the years due to interest.
“According to Eskom, we should be paying every month on or before the 2nd on the months we are supposed to make payments. So we should stop paying around the 6th and 7th and so on. We agreed to stick to that date.”
