Former Eskom Boss, Matshela Koko, cleared of wrongdoing

Eskom Boss, Matshela Koko's, fate still to be decided

Speculation was rife on Friday that Eskom’s suspended acting Chief Executive Officer Matshela Koko has been re-instated.

This after an internal Eskom disciplinary hearing apparently cleared him of any wrongdoing.

Koko was suspended after Eskom's dealings with his step-daughters’ company, Impulse International, came to light. Impulse was awarded at least R1 billion in contracts from the power utility

He was also central to approving a R650 million loan to the Gupta-owned Tegeta Resources, which assisted it in the purchase of the Optimum Coal mine.

Eskom spokesperson Khulu Phasiwe confirmed that the Eskom board met on Friday morning and that a report was tabled, but says he has not seen the content of the report.

Phasiwe says the board will first inform Minister of Public Enterprises Lynne Brown before any decision is made public.

He says an announcement will be made after Brown and the board have studied the contents.
