Eskom eases load shedding to stage 5
Updated | By Jacaranda FM News
Eskom has taken the planned power cuts down a notch to stage 5 following slight improvement in generation capacity.
The embattled power utility says load shedding will be reduced from stage 6 to stage 5 from Friday until further notice.
On Wednesday afternoon, the utility had asked South Africans to reduce electricity usage or face higher stages of load shedding.
This was due to delays in returning to service a generating unit each at Kendal, Matla, and Matimba power stations.
Eskom spokesperson Daphne Mokwena says a slight improvement in generation capacity and lower demand has made it possible for Eskom to reduce power cuts by at least one stage.
Eskom has been struggling to return more units online despite Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa's promise that two units at the embattled Tutuka Power Station in Mpumalanga will be back online in September.
