Eskom extends load shedding to Sunday
Updated | By Nokukhanya N Mntambo
Eskom says South Africans can expect rolling blackouts for the better part of the weekend.
On Thursday morning Eskom announced it would implement stage 2 load shedding until Saturday morning but this has since changed owing to the loss of additional units.
Spokesperson Sikonathi Mantshantsha says the power utility is facing a shortage in generation capacity.
This means load shedding will now be implemented until at least Sunday morning.
"The system remains vulnerable and constrained, and as such we remind customers that any shift in the system performance will require a change in the stage of load shedding at short notice," says Mantshantsha.
He adds: "Eskom also reminds South Africans that there is a possibility of increased load shedding over the next 18 months as we are conducting critical maintenance to restore the ageing plant to good health."
