Eskom: High risk of load shedding

Eskom has warned that there is a high risk of stage 2 load shedding on Wednesday evening after it terminated the same stage earlier in the morning.

Spokesperson Dikatso Mothae says the system remains constrained.

"The system is quite constrained. However we were able to stop load shedding at 6am. As you are aware we had to implement load shedding from 1am this morning until 6am, and that was so we could replenish some of our emergency reserves.

"Our unplanned outages are sitting at over 13 000 megawatts. If you remember we said in order to limit the risk of load shedding that we need to contain those break downs to below 9500 megawatts. So the risk of load shedding remains this evening. We may need to load shed over night to replenish again those emergency reserves."

The embattled power utility pleaded with customers to reduce demand by using electricity sparingly.
