Eskom hopeful of a load shedding-free weekend
Updated | By Anastasi Mokgobu
Eskom CEO André de Ruyter doesn’t believe it will be necessary to implement load shedding over the coming weekend.
The embattled utility’s management team briefed the media on Friday on the power crisis amid weeks of continuous rolling blackouts.
The power utility eased load shedding from stage 2 on Thursday to stage 1 on Friday morning.
This was after eight generating units successfully returned to service over 24 hours. allowing the utility to recover the dam levels at the pump storage stations.
De Ruyter said the utility has recovered enough generation capacity to suspend load shedding.
“We will suspend load shedding stage 1 at 9 pm tonight. We do not anticipate any load shedding for the weekend and the outlook for the week is for no load shedding given that we do not lose our major units which will cause a lack of generation capacity.”
