Eskom intensifies stage 2 load shedding
Updated | By Mmangaliso Khumalo
Eskom has announced the implementation of stage 2 load from 10am on Wednesday due to a generation capacity shortage.
Previously the blackouts only began at 5pm.
From Thursday the power utility will implement load shedding from 5am until midnight.
This is expected to last until Sunday.
The utility's spokesperson Sikonathi Mantshantsha says the situation could continue in the coming weeks if the capacity does not improve.
"Eskom will continue to closely monitor the system, adjust and communicate any changes as may be. We appeal to all South Africans to help limit the impact of the shortages by continuing to reduce the usage of electricity and to switch off all non-essential items.
"Eskom cautions the public that as the shortage of generation capacity persists, the system will continue to be constrained with an elevated risk of loadshedding over the coming weeks."
