It's d-day for Eskom to respond to the unions' latest wage demands.

Wage negotiations between the power utility and the NUM, Solidarity and Numsa are set to resume after the unions tabled their demands on Friday.

According to Numsa's Phakamile Hlubi-Majola, Eskom has been given two options.

The first, a one-year agreement that wages will increase with 8%, including all the other allowances workers are entitled to.

Hlubi-Majola says if Eskom chooses this option they will reduce their housing allowance demand to R500.00.

The second option available to the embattled parastatal is a three-year agreement.

Workers demand an 8% increase for this year and 8.5% in 2019-20.

"It will also require a change in the structure of the bonus pay-outs so that workers actually receive a 25% share instead of sharing 12%," explains Hlubi-Majola.

This could possibly be Eskom's last change to divert a strike as labour representatives have been in locked down for weeks.
