Eskom says some ‘glitches’ in new load-limiting project
Updated | By Princess Mahogo
Some Eskom customers in Gauteng experienced glitches during the pilot project of the utility’s new load-limiting on Tuesday night.
The project's pilot phase started last weekend in Fourways, north of Johannesburg.
The project aims to optimise electricity consumption to better balance the supply and demand of electricity during stages 1 to 4 of load shedding.
The embattled power utility says the pilot will focus on select customers with smart meters but will eventually be rolled out nationally.
Customers are sent a warning an hour before load shedding starts to remind them to reduce their consumption.
The project will allow customers access to minimal electricity during lower load shedding stages.
“Several load-limiting customers got load shedded instead of load limited last night, and we are investigating why this happened,” said Amanda Qithi.
