He is currently serving out his notice period and will officially pack up his office at the end of April.

Phasiwe has been serving as the Eskom spokesperson for the past five years and describes it as being in a "war zone".

"In this five year period, I've been almost like in a war zone and when you are in a war zone before you plan your next move, you need to distress, you need to detox.

"So for quite frankly me at this stage, I want to take it easy, relax and then afterward I will see what I want to do," adds Phasiwe.

He has given a glimpse at what it was like being the person responsible for relaying the messages of loadshedding and unplanned outages to South Africa, saying it was a tough race that has run its course.

The embattled power utility has been facing numerous challenges over the last decade, having to battle rolling power cuts, state capture allegations, mismanagement and years long delays at it's flag ship Medupi and Kusili plants.
