Eskom: Stage 8 load shedding not on the cards
Updated | By Lulutho Mkosi
Embattled power utility Eskom has strongly denied claims that there is an imminent possibility of stage 8 load shedding.

This follows reports claiming that the power utility could implement stage 8 load shedding as it struggles to keep the lights on.
The rumours led to a frenzy on social media.

President Cyril Ramaphosa announced during the January 8 statement that government will not allow the cash-strapped utility to fail.
Eskom spokesperson Dikatso Mothae said on Tuesday that all reserves are at maximum capacity and chances of load shedding through the day remain minimal.
“We do not expect to have to implement stage 8 load shedding.
“This is largely to do with planning and with planning you plan for low risk events and high risk events and certainly with stage 8 that is a low risk event, that in terms of the disaster management act we have to plan for,” says Mothae.
Stage 6 load shedding has been the most severe power cuts implemented by Eskom up to date.
