South Africans have been subjected to stage 2 and 4 load shedding since Saturday
Eskom will be suspending load shedding at 8pm on Friday - earlier than initially planned .
The power utility’s CEO Andre de Ruyter confirmed the reprieve from rolling blackouts at a media briefing on Friday afternoon.
South Africans have been subjected to stage 2 and 4 load shedding since Saturday.
But Oberholzer said the system has since improved.
“As we speak, we have already started pumping the pump storage stations, the system has improved and most important is that we have managed to replenish our emergencies. Some of the units that we had on breakdowns we managed to return a number of them.”
Oberholzer also vowed that Monday, when South Africans go to the polls for the local government elections, will be free of power cuts.
“We have emergencies that are sort of full, we believe that we will be able to have an election that is free load shedding, as well as during the counting of the votes. However, we are running with some risk units about 6 000 megawatts of which high-risk are just under 2000, but we requested our colleagues at power stations to be on high alert for next week.”
