Eskom suspends load shedding ‘to ease traffic congestion’
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
Eskom says it will suspend stage 2 load shedding between 4pm and 6pm in order to ease South Africans’ journey home through peak hour traffic.
The struggling power utility has extended the rolling blackouts until at least Thursday due to a shortage of capacity.
"Stage 2 load shedding will be suspended for two hours from 16:00 today, in an endeavor to ease traffic congestion. Load shedding will then resume at 18:00 until 06:00 tomorrow," says spokesperson Sikhonathi Mantshantsha.
At the same time it cautioned that the suspension of rolling blackouts during peak hour traffic is still only a pilot programme.
