Eskom suspends power cuts in Mpumalanga
Updated | By MornéJK
Power utility Eskom has confirmed that it has suspended electricity interruptions to the Emalahleni and Msukaligwa Municipalities amid ongoing discussions with the provincial government.
Eskom last week cut power supply to the two municipalities due to non-payment.
"Eskom feels the pain inflicted to the members of the public and the unintended consequences of the disruption of essential services, in particular access to water," spokesperson Khulu Phasiwe says.
He adds that they have met with Premier David Mabuza to address the non-payment by municipalities.

"This gesture from Eskom will allow the defaulting municipalities some time to remedy the breach and also bring some normality to the affected communities," Phasiwe says.
Phasiwe adds that they will however resume with the power cuts should the municipalities fail to remedy the breach before the 4th of March 2017.
"Eskom reserves the rights to continue with the interruptions following adequate notice to the communities," he says.
