Eskom upgrades to stage 4 blackouts from Wednesday afternoon
Updated | By Nokukhanya N Mntambo
Eskom says it will move the country from stage 2 to stage 4 load shedding on Wednesday afternoon.
Additional breakdowns of a unit at Medupi and two units at Duvha Power Station, coupled with the high winter demand, have continued to put strain on the grid.
Stage 4 will take effect between 2pm and 10pm in order to ration the remaining emergency generation reserves.
"These emergency reserves are required to respond to further emergencies in order to maintain the stability of the national grid," says Eskom spokesperson, Sikonathi Mantshantsha.
"Thereafter Stage 2 load shedding will be implemented as previously communicated," Mantshantsha adds.
"These capacity constraints will continue for the foreseeable future."
