Eskom warns of load shedding at short notice
Updated | By Anastasi Mokgobu
Eskom says it might have to implement load shedding at short notice due to a severely constrained power system.
The embattled power utility warns that any further breakdowns at its power stations will force it to implement rolling blackouts on Tuesday evening.
“Eskom cautions the public that due to the continued shortage of generation capacity, the power system will be very constrained for this evening and the next few days. Should there be any further significant breakdowns, loadshedding may be required at short notice, most likely during the evening peak of 17:00 to 22:00,” says spokesperson Sikonathi Mantshantsha.
The power utility is currently running at 3 307MW on planned maintenance, while another 15 844MW of capacity is unavailable due to breakdowns.
Mantshantsha says the also remains an elevated risk of load shedding over the coming weeks.
