Eskom warns of low coal stocks
Updated | By Jacaranda FM News
Eskom says there may be a risk of load shedding, if the rain
continues to fall over Mpumalanga.
Eskom's Spokesperson Khulu Phasiwe says 11 of its 15 power stations in the country have less than the minimum required coal supply to generate electricity and this may lead to possible load shedding.
"If we have continued rainfall in Mpumalanga which is where our power stations are, then you are likely to have difficulty using that coal or accessing it," says Phasiwe.
He adds many of the mines are open cast mines, where water builds up in the pits during rainfall.
Phasiwe says part of its contingency measures, is to once again revert to diesel to generate electricity and prevent large scale load shedding.
