This comes after 6 generation units tripped, compromising its ability to ability to meet peak demands.

Spokesperson Sikonathi Mantshantsha says the system is severely constrained.

“Today six generation units suffered trips, while the return to service of three others has been delayed.

”One of the six units that tripped today, at the Majuba power station, has since been returned to service. Eskom teams are hard at work trying to return these units to service.”

De Lille presented the newly gazetted Infrastructure Investment Plan on Monday. "The severe economic recession, together with the Covid-19 pandemic, has now placed an added urgency on us to navigate a new normal. "In this new normal, there is an even greater need to partner in the investment and implementation of infrastructure that will facilitate social and economic growth in a workable and purposeful way.

The beleaguered power utility suspended load shedding almost two weeks ago after struggling with generating capacity for a week.

‘’A generation unit each at the Majuba, Tutuka, Hendrina and Duvha power stations tripped. The return to service of a generation unit each at the Matla, Kendal and Tutuka power stations have been delayed,” says Mantshantsha.

“We urge the public’s co-operation in managing demand in order to help us supply the country’s demand through the peak periods.”
