Establishments selling alcohol must adhere to level 2 regulations: Beer Association
The Beer Association of South Africa has pleaded with establishments licensed to sell liquor to adhere to level 2 lockdown regulations.
The group's Patricia Pillay says they have received numerous complaints about stores breaking Covid-19 rules, selling and serving alcohol outside legal trading hours.
Liquor stores are only permitted to do so from Monday to Thursday between 9 am and 5 pm.
Pillay says some outlets are also ignoring social distancing protocols:
"The Beer Association of South Africa has committed itself to identifying establishments on breaking the law and stopping their supply and sales service support.
“Beer manufacturers will work directly with provincial liquor port and law enforcement authorities to obtain details of outlets reported to be non-compliant or whose licenses have been revoked since sales of alcohol resumed, under alert level two and to stop supplying them as well as stop providing sales."
Alcohol can be served in restaurants but only until the 10 pm curfew.
