eThekwini mayor in isolation after testing positive for Covid-19

eThekwini Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda has tested positive for Covid-19.

The city confirmed on Tuesday that while Kaunda remained in good health, he is in isolation as per government protocols.
In a statement, Kaunda pleaded with residents to continue to adhere to all the coronavirus safety measures, with the metro being declared a Covid-19 hotspot amid the second wave.
“We continue to be guided by science as advised by the Department of Health. It is unfortunate that some people are spreading false information about the installation of 5G and linking it to the spread of Covid-19 in the city,” he said.
“This has created an impression that we are a city that is averse to technological innovation.
“eThekwini is determined to become a smart city and we will continue to embrace programmes that are aimed at fast-tracking this process.
"Ultimately, our goal is to be the centre of digital transformation in the country in line with the Fourth Industrial Revolution programme,” he added.
Kaunda’s comments follows an uproar over a voicenote by an African National Congress (ANC) councillor Sfiso Mngadi, in which he blamed 5G networks for Covid-19.
