Europa night club cashiers nabbed for fraud
Updated | By Pieter van der Merwe
Five cashiers working at the popular Europa night club in Sunnyside are set to appear in the Pretoria Magistrate's Court on Monday on charges of fraud.
The suspects, aged 18-26, were arrested during a late night sting operation on Thursday.
According to police the group is believed to have embezzled just over R126 000 over a period of two weeks.
"It is believed that the suspects achieved their exploits by reproducing and misrepresenting receipts from the previous sales, which subsequently created a conflict in excess of R126 000 between the club's receipts and banked income," says police spokesperson Captain Daniel Mavimbela.
Police also called on local businesses to "intensify their theft-deterrent strategies" and regularly check their income to detect any discrepancies.
