"We can confirm that last night [Wednesday] members of the Garsfontein tracing unit, the metro and SA Police Service dog units, with the assistance of a security company proceeded to an address in Bronkhorstspruit where the man was arrested," Warrant Officer Dave Miller said.

He confirmed reports that the man was the victim's ex-fiancé.

A man and a woman were also arrested and charged with defeating the ends of justice after allegedly hiding the suspect. Pretoria East Rekord reported that the two were his parents.

Police recovered four licensed firearms, three rifles and a handgun - the latter believed to be the murder weapon.

A .38 special with its number filed off was also recovered.

"We are dealing with it as an unlicensed firearm," Miller said.

"The man is facing a charge of murder and he could also face a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm."

Fired several shots

Miller said law enforcement officials worked tirelessly to search for the man after his ex-fiancée was shot at her place of work in Garsfontein on Wednesday.

"He entered the work premises and she came downstairs to the reception area. When she arrived he produced a firearm and fired several shots, fatally wounding her."

The man raced from the scene on a motorbike.

Miller said there was CCTV footage which was handed over to police.

According to the Pretoria East Rekord, the woman was a 33-year-old administrative clerk at Cura Health Insurance.

She apparently kicked the man out of their apartment two weeks ago when he allegedly started to abuse her.
