EXCLUSIVE: Father seeks answers after Pienaarsdam death

The father of a seven-year-old boy, who was killed after he allegedly fell off a trailer, says he wants to know the exact details of how his son died.

Mogau Mokgokong

Kabelo Mokgokong says he and his wife took their son, Mogau, to a classmate's birthday party at Pienaarsdam on 1 October and didn't know that was going to be their last day with him.

"They went on a trailer for a game drive to see the animals. Twenty minutes later I was called and told my son was injured. When I got to the scene he was under the trailer, he was responsive but weak and he was not blinking his eyes," he says.

Mokgokong alleges the driver of the bakkie that was pulling the trailer does not have a permit.

"The driver of the bakkie who is working for the resort doesn't have a valid driver's licence and there was no adult from the resort to look after the kids on the trailer while driving around," he says.

Pienaarsdam declined to comment and referred us to their lawyer, Neil Maree.

Maree's phone was answered by someone else, who confirmed he would not comment on the matter at this stage.

Middelburg police spokesperson, Captain Khanyisile Zwane confirmed a case has been opened and police are waiting for a post mortem report to refer the matter to a court for prosecution.
