Driving.co.za managing director Rob Handsfield-Jones says that a lot of hijackings do not involve weapons.

“What most people have in mind when it comes to hijacking, is someone pointing a gun in your face and a lot of hijackings do happen that way but a surprising number of hijackings happen without the use of a weapon”

He adds: motorists should always be aware of their surroundings as a precaution.

“Your first defence against hijacking is to make sure that you’re in the vehicle with your windows are up, your door’s locked and your seatbelt is on.”
