Former spy boss Billy Masetlha granted special provincial funeral

President Cyril Ramaphosa has granted South Africa's former ambassador to Algeria Billy Masetlha with a Special Provincial Official Funeral.

Masetlha, who also served as director-general at the National Intelligence Agency, died on Sunday after a long-term illness.
He was 68.
Masetlha left the agency in 2006 after former president Thabo Mbeki fired him after he was accused of spying on behalf of former president Jacob Zuma.
“Masetlha will be remembered for his commitment to the emancipation of all South Africans. He was a freedom fighter who resented inequality, injustice, and racism,” said Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi.
Ramaphosa has also ordered the National Flag to fly at half-mast in Gauteng on the day of the funeral.
The funeral service will be held at the Bryanston Methodist Church on Saturday.
