The Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court has sentence a Gauteng woman to 15 years behind bars after she was convicted on 762 counts of fraud.

Carmelia Mngomezulu (52) was arrested in Soweto in 2020.
Hawks spokesperson Philani Nkwalase says Mngomezulu held a senior position at payroll company Inyathi between 2015 and 2018.
“An internal audit was conducted, and it was established that Mngomezulu would occasionally transfer the company’s funds into her personal account and those of her family members. The company suffered a financial loss of approximately R3.7 million.”
Nkwalase says the police handed the investigation to the Hawks due to the scale of the fraud.
“A case docket was registered and handed over to the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team based in Johannesburg for further exploration.”
