Extradition of AKA murder accused in eSwatini 'formally underway'
The National Prosecuting Authority says efforts to extradite two men arrested in Eswatini in connection with the murders of Kiernan Forbes and Tebello Motsoane are formally underway.
Brothers Siyabonga and Malusi Ndimande were detained in the kingdom last month, days before police in KwaZulu-Natal confirmed the duo's arrest and that of five others on this side of the border.
The Durban Magistrate's Court began hearing the bail application of five of the accused on Thursday.
NPA KZN spokesperson Natasha Kara spoke to Newswatch outside court.
"With regards to the extradition process, the NPA can confirm that the process is underway. The National Director of Public Prosecutions has signed the relevant documentation, and it has been forwarded to the Department of Justice, which is the central authority figure in the process."
The two accused brothers had their case in the Manzini Magistrate's Court postponed earlier this week due to the extradition papers not having yet made their way to eSwatini.
They face charges including murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and unlawful possession of a firearm.
Authorities say the mastermind, two shooters, two spotters and the person who hired the guns and the cars used in the crime are among the group of suspects rounded up.
AKA and his friend Motsoane were shot dead outside a restaurant on Durban's Florida Road in February last year.
