A family of four were arrested at a smallholding outside Atlantis on Wednesday after a police raid uncovered a dagga laboratory, Western Cape police said.
“Following an investigation into alleged illegal drug activity by the Western Cape Flying Squad and Crime Intelligence a search warrant was obtained and executed at a premises on the outskirts of Atlantis,” police spokesman Andre Traut said.
“At 11:30 the members conducted a search of the smallholding alongside Dassenberg Road where they uncovered a hydroponic dagga laboratory with various cultivation rooms.”
Police seized several plants and equipment used to cultivate them.
“A nursery and other enclosures with numerous plants of different sizes were also confiscated,” Traut said.
“Detectives from the DPCI [directorate for priority crime investigation, more commonly known as the Hawks] are currently investigating the scene and the value is still to be determined.”
A 64-year-old man, his 49-year-old wife and their two sons, aged 25 and 15, were arrested.
