The Mpumalanga mother was accused of poisoning 8-year-old Minenhle, 6-year-old Blessing, 4-year-old Shanique and 11-month-old baby Ettiene on New Year’s Eve.
Matilda says she is willing to accept the minim sentence for the murder.
Speaking outside the court, her uncle Kevin Balance said while the family is still trying to cope they will continue to support her.
"We are down and we feel for her. We'll be there for her.
"You have to be neutral. She made a mistake, we have forgiven her. Eventually, we want her back to society. She must do her time and she must come back to us."
The Spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in Mpumalanga, Monica Nyuswa, says the state is still fighting that the prescribed minimum sentence must be imposed.
Matidla will be sentenced on Friday.
