"This morning [Sunday] at about 08:50 a microlight aircraft was reported to have been involved in an accident," spokesperson Colonel Ronel Otto said.
"It is alleged that two people, an adult male of 50-years-old, and a 16-year-old-boy, were up in the sky when the aircraft came back and hit the ground."
The crash, which happened next to the D311 Shongwane Seleka Road on Sunday, killed Wynand Karel Snyders, believed to be the pilot. The 16-year-old boy, Johannes Snyders, was taken to hospital.
"The investigation continues as it is not known what the cause of the accident was," Otto said.
The SA Civil Aviation Authority was informed, Otto added.
