Fees Commision hearings: Another day of submissions
Updated | By Silindelo Masikane
The fees commission will continue with the second round of pull-up hearings today after it yesterday heard submissions from the Private higher education interest group, Unisa and UFS.

The basic education department and some students organizations are expected to make submissions today.
Unisa and the University of the Free State submitted that fee-free higher education is simply unaffordable.
Unisa Vice-Chancellor, Prof Mandla Makhanya says long-term fee-free education is not sustainable.
"It is unsustainable if we don't see it in the context where we agree that we have to inject the necessary resources," Makhanya said.

UFS acting Vice-Chancellor, Nicky Morgan says it has tailored its policies to accommodate post students but warned that the university would be in serious financial trouble if it implemented a 0% fee increase.
"We are confronted with increases that are outside of our control. We would have to do some sacrifices to survive. We might have less money for bursaries.
The Fees Commission has heard that fee free higher education is not sustainable in the long term.
