#Fees2017: Classes remain suspended at UCT
Updated | By MornéJK
The University of Cape Town has temporarily suspended classes, lectures and tests as students started protesting for free higher education.
This comes after the Minister of Higher Education, Blade Nzimande's announcement yesterday that it is up to individual universities to determine the fees for 2017.
Students are adamant that they can't afford any increase and that they want free higher education.
At least 33 students have been arrested during the #Fees2017 protest at Wits University in Johannesburg.
UCT released a statement earlier, saying that after consulting with a number of different stakeholders, they decided to suspend classes, lectures and tests.
UCT Libraries, including the 24/7 study area, will also be closed.
