Female-only traffic officer teams take to the streets
Updated | By Olivia Phalaetsile
Female law enforcement officers under the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) are set to take over South African roads in Women’s Month.
RTMC spokesperson Simon Zwane says the operation is called ‘Refihlile’ which means ‘we have arrived’.
“The officers will enforce traffic laws and improve safety on the roads. This includes removing the number of accidents and educate the public about road safety,” he said.
The operations will be conducted by the National Traffic Police in collaboration with South African Police Services, provincial traffic departments, metro police and home affairs.
