Fibre network damage delays UIF TERS payouts

The Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) says a damaged fibre cable has caused a delay in the capturing and payment of its May Covid-19 TERS.

The "freak break in its network" happened while it's new capturing system was being tested ahead of its launch date on Tuesday.
Spokesperson Makhosonke Buthelezi they are working around the clock to fix the problem.
"We are hopeful that we will be able to resolve this, so we can open the system today so that employers can begin with the May applications."

Buthelezi says they are hoping to make payments on Saturday.
He has also confirmed the UIF has so far paid R15 billion to date.
Buthelezi says employers who have not registered their employees for the UIF can still register them for the TERS.
