A fifth man arrested in connection with the murder of ANC ward councillor Sbonelo Mthembu Ntshangase and his two friends has decided to abandon his bail application.
Andile Gamede (32) appeared in the Piet Retief Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday following his arrest two days earlier.
Ntshangase and his friends Sandile Khumalo (51) and Sizwe Mbingo (40) were allegedly shot by armed suspects in Mkhondo (Piet Retief) on 13 January.
Gamede is facing charges of three counts of murder, attempted murder and theft of a firearm.
Gamede is the fifth suspect to be arrested in connection to the killings, including former Mkhondo mayor Vusi Motha and his co-accused Wellington Sangweni.
Two other accused, Blessing Nhlakanipho Ntombela and Blessing Bongani Dlamini, appeared in court on Monday.
The case against Gamede has been postponed to next week Monday.
