Monday is the last day for members of the public to submit comments or objections to the Grahamstown name change gazetted by Arts and Culture Minister Nathi Mthetwa.
In the notice, published on the 29th of June, Mthethwa announced that Grahamstown's name had been changed to Makhanda, following a protracted public participation process.

However, opponents of the name change said the Minister's notice had failed to inform the public of their right to comment or object.
In an earlier interview with Algoa FM News Jock McConnachie of the lobby group, Keep Grahamstown, Grahamstown explained why the Minister's notice was defective.
"The notice is defective because it doesn't tell people that they still have the right to object within one month,” McConnachie said.
