"The fire has now been put out," spokesman Robert Mulaudzi said after midday.

The fire started at around 5am and was brought under control at around 11am. One man was injured on his leg while running out of the burning print ink factory building.

He entered the building in the morning to try and extinguish the fire but failed. He was injured on his way out, and was treated by paramedics on the scene. No other injuries were reported.

Thick smoke clouds had earlier covered most of the M2 highway near the Cleveland off-ramp, but had cleared by midday.

Mulaudzi said the extent of the damage had not yet been established.

The cause of the fire was unknown.
