Fire shuts Christiana hospital in North West

The provincial Department of Health has confirmed that the fire damaged the entire hospital.
The Christiana hospital at Bloemhof in North West has been forced to shut its doors temporarily after a fire broke out on Wednesday morning.
The provincial Department of Health has confirmed that the fire damaged the entire hospital.
Spokesperson Tebogo Lekgethwane said the cause of the fire is not yet known.
“We received reports that the hospital has caught fire. The early indication is that the entire hospital is affected. Even the new medical equipment we just bought for that hospital, even the ward that has just been renovated unfortunately we have received that they all caught fire.”
The patients were evacuated and transferred to nearby hospitals.
“We are transferring patients to the Klerksdorp Tshepong hospital and Vryburg. Fortunately we do not have reports of any injury or anyone who might have succumbed to the fire at this point. MEC Mododa Sambatha will be visiting the hospital to assess the damage.”
Meanwhile, investigations are also underway into the cause of the fire at the iconic Mmabatho Palms Hotel, Casino and Convention Resort in Mahikeng.
