A blaze broke out at a building housing the Gauteng departments of health, human settlements and local government fire in the Johannesburg CBD on Wednesday.
Johannesburg Emergency Services spokesperson Nana Radebe says everyone has been evacuated and the situation is under control.
"One person has passed away. He was one of our firefighters," says Radebe.
The cause of the fire is still unknown.
Doctor Sipho Sinabo, who is a deputy director-general at the department of health, says the staff was quickly evacuated from the building.
"We were told that the fire started on the 23rd floor and staff from the floor have been evacuated," says Sinabo.
