First Glebelands hitman convicted
Updated | By Pieter van der Merwe
A hitman has begun serving a life sentence for murdering a Glebelands Hostel resident - making him the first person to be convicted for deadly violence plaguing the Umlazi complex in KwaZulu-Natal.

28-year-old Mxoleleni Bhani - who also lived at Glebelands - was handed the punishment in the Durban High Court yesterday.
He shot and killed hostel resident Sipho Ndovela two years ago.
"We are very much please with the sentenced handed down to Mxoleleni Bhani," says police spokesperson Thulani Zwane.
The sentecing comes amid a spike in political violence with police minister Fikile Mbalula also visiting the hostel this past week.
According to Zwane Bhani was given another 12-years for attempted murder after he shot and wounded a man at the complex a month after killing Ndovela.
Bhani was arrested when he attended a court appearance in Umlazi.
More than 90 people have been killed at the Umlazi hostel since 2014.
