Five people were burnt to death when their car caught alight after colliding with a tow truck near Pongola on Saturday night.

KwaZulu-Natal Road Traffic Inspectorate spokeswoman Zinhle Mngomezulu said on Sunday the accident saw a BMW collide with a tow truck racing to an accident scene. “They were entrapped and were burnt to death,” she said. The accident happened shortly after 10pm.
Mngomezulu said the occupants of the BMW, who lived in the area, were returning to a party or festivities after going to a local shop when the accident happened.
Earlier on Sunday, KwaZulu-Natal provincial emergency medical service spokesman Robert McKenzie said two people were taken to hospital in a serious condition.
Mngomezulu said the two were the driver of the tow truck and a passenger. She said she had been informed that the two had already been discharged from hospital. –
