Five injured in Glencore community protest

Five people were injured during a protest outside the Glencore Optimum mine at Marikana near Rustenburg on Tuesday.
The five were part of a group of protestors demanding that the mine do more to set up internships, skills development and community projects in the area.
North West police spokesperson Adele Myburgh says the injured were taken to the nearest hospital.
The mines’ s security guards allegedly used rubber bullets to disperse the crowd when they reached the gates of the mine.
"Currently the situation is calm and under control," says Myburgh.
The residents subsequently handed over the memorandum of demands to the mine.
Glencore could not be reached for comment.
