Five killed in head-on collision near Lanseria
Five people have died in a head-on collision between a bakkie and a car on the R512 near Lanseria, north west of Johannesburg.
ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring says the wreckage of both vehicles were found in the middle of the road when paramedics arrived on the scene at around 7am.
"Both vehicles had sustained a significant amount of damage in the collision. On closer inspection, medics found that the five occupants that had been in the light motor vehicle had sustained numerous, fatal injuries.
"Nothing could be done for them and they were declared dead. The male driver of the bakkie, who was found seated in the rear of his vehicle, was assessed and found to have sustained serious injuries. He was treated, provided with pain-relief medication and thereafter transported to a nearby hospital for further care.”
The cause of the crash is being investigated.
