5 Dutch nationals killed in Mpumalanga crash

A head-on collision on the N4 near Mbombela in Mpumalanga claimed the lives of five Dutch nationals on Thursday.

Spokesperson for the Department of Community Safety Moeti Mmusi says the all five were declared dead on the scene..

Police have not been able to determine if the victims were tourists.

"Two people were seriously injured - driver from the SUV and a passenger from a Conquest sustained serious injuries and they were rushed to a nearby hospital in Mbombela.

"The Tazz was travelling from Mozambique to Johannesburg at the time it got involved while the SUV which had Dutch nationals was travelling from Johannesburg to Mbombela."

Mmusi says the cause of the accident is still being investigated.

"But we cannot rule out over speeding and dangerous overtaking.
