Five learners have been killed and 11 others injured following a collision involving two taxi's roughly 50km outside of Pietermaritzburg in KwaZulu-Natal.

When emergency services arrived on scene yesterday afternoon, they found both vehicles had sustained significant damage.
"Reports from the scene allege that two minibus taxi’s had been involved in a head-on collision, one of the vehicle was transporting learners from different schools. The other vehicle overturned and caught fire," reads a statement by Netcare911.
The five learners had already succumbed to their injuries when paramedics arrived on scene.
Three of the learners were in critical condition, one of whom was given advance life support at the scene before being transported to hospital for urgent care.
Emergency services say the learners are all aged between 13 and 17.
"The other victims were transported to different hospitals by various ambulance services," says Netcare911.
Authorities were on scene to investigate the cause of the collision.
