Five lions on the loose on the West Rand
Updated | By Pieter van der Merwe
Authorities have now discovered that at least five lions are on the loose in the West Rand area and not one as they initially believed.
Trackers, veterenarians and local authorities set up a bait trap last night to capture a young male lion which was recently spotted on CCTV cameras.
But they then came accross what appears to be a pride, lead by a dominant male.
The young male was initially believed to be alone after it was seen walking past a Fochville resident's gate.
The Captured in Africa Foundation's Drew Abrahamson says they are now making arrangements for the necessary equipment to capture the lions.
"So we need extra vets, extra meds and crates and all of that stuff to move forward," explains Abrahamson, "and we'll just go through the same process tonight as what we did last night."
Authorities have so far been unable to capture any of the animals.
It is unsure who the lions belong to or where they come from.
