SAPS spokesperson Priscilla Naidu said the arrests were carried out in KwaNobuhle, Acadia and Bethelsdorp, respectively, in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Naidu said the suspects are between the ages of 21 and 34.

They are believed to have stormed an alleged drug house in KwaNobuhle on Tuesday night, killing six people and wounding at least four others.

Naidu said the breakthrough came after collaboration between a task team comprising the Provincial Serious and Violent Crimes, Crime Intelligence, Tactical Response Team and Anti-Gang Units.

“The incident is suspected to be drug-related. [The suspects] are detained on six charges of murder and four of attempted murder.”

Provincial Police Commissioner Nomthetheleli Mene hailed the work of the officers involved in the arrests.

“[She said] the task team demonstrated unwavering commitment and exceptional skill in apprehending the perpetrators responsible for these heinous murders and attempted murders,” said Naidu.

“Their tireless efforts, perseverance and meticulous investigation resulted in the speedy apprehension.

“They have worked day and night since this incident, sacrificing their own comfort and safety, to ensure that the arrests bring solace to the families of the victims.

The suspects are expected to appear in court soon.
