Hawks spokesperson in Gauteng, Captain Ndivhuwo Mulamu says they have confirmed that none of the suspects work in either the SAPS or any other law enforcement agency.

This after speculation that one of those arrested could be linked to the police.

"There was a name that was provided to our office, however that name does not appear on our name list of suspects arrested," added Mulamu.

She says it has not been confirmed yet, whether the suspects can be linked to any criminal offences on the Hawks system.

"However, we are still capturing whatever that has been provided to us as to ID numbers and finger prints so that we can check if they can be linked to any criminal activities in the country."

In the meantime, the search continues for at least another five suspects that managed to flee during a dramatic police chase during which several shots were also fired at a SAPS helicopter.

Police gave chase on the M2 and cornered the suspects at the George Gogh hostel.

The heist made headline news when various videos surfaced on social media, showing the heavily armed gang guarding a perimeter on various street corners while the two cash vans were bombed.
